TORRINGTON – Nicholas Salvatore Ponzi, 21, of Torrington, died from injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident on July 3, 2022. Nicholas was on a 10-day leave from Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, Calif., where he proudly served as a United States Marine.

Nicholas was born Jan. 9, 2001, in Bristol. He attended St. Peter/St. Francis School in Torrington, and was a 2019 graduate of Torrington High School. Following his graduation, Nicholas enlisted in the United States Marines in 2020.

Nicholas was a proud American patriot who loved his country, his family, and the brothers and sisters he served with.

In Nicholas’ short 21 years, he lived his life full speed … from his love of weightlifting, running, fast cars and motorcycles. Nick’s big heart and goofy sense of humor created instant friends. He loved his family, friends, and forever put the people he cared about first.

Nicholas is survived by his parents, Philip and Keri (Szydlo) Ponzi, and brother and best friend, Noah Ponzi, of Torrington; maternal grandparents, Dennis and Marilyn Szydlo of Burlington; aunts and uncles, Greg and Sue (Szydlo) Latterman; and cousins Connor, Jack and Markus of Illinois, Jeff and Lisa (Szydlo) Jaworek and cousins Madelyn and Vivian of Indiana, Robert and Debra Ponzi of New Hartford, Trisha Fox (Ponzi) of Del Ray Beach, Fla.

Nicholas was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Salvatore and Rita (Fabiaschi) Ponzi; and special great-aunt Irma Fabiaschi and uncle James (Chip) Fox.

Hopefully, our memories of this fine young man will help sustain us until we all meet again. Fly High Brother, Semper Fi and lastly, remember Nick’s favorite phrase … “I’ll call you right back” …

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Church (St. John Paul the Great Parish), 107 E. Main St., Torrington, where Nicholas was an altar server for many years. Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at St. Peter Church. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, 76 Walnut St., Torrington, with full military honors accorded.
