The Lucid Air Is Even Faster Than You Thought – MotorBiscuit

The Lucid Air is one hilariously fast electric vehicle, especially when you consider that it has four doors and space for the entire family. Also, the Air certainly proved itself at the hallowed Goodwood Festival of Speed in England this year. Frankly, the festival is overrun with top-tier performance cars every year from accomplished marques like Porsche and BMW, and 2022 was no different. However, despite all the high-octane battles, EVs stole the show, and the Lucid Air Dream Edition pulled off an incredible feat.

How fast is the Lucid Air?

The Lucid Air is a very fast car, especially when you get into the top trims like the Dream Edition. According to TrueCar, the entry-level Air, the Pure, puts down 480 horsepower via a single electric motor. That’s impressive for an entry-level car, but the news gets better as we ascend the trims. The Touring trim gets a 620-horsepower dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) system, making for a much quicker car.

Still, the Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance steps it up even further, with a 1,050-horsepower output. Finally, the Dream Edition maximizes the madness with 1,111 horsepower and 520 miles of range with AWD. Car and Driver tested the four-door EV and measured an incredible 0-60 mph time of just 2.6 seconds. That is quicker than a new Chevrolet C8 Corvette Z51, a car purpose-built for speed.

How fast was the Lucid Air at Goodwood?

The Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance stunned fans at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. According to InsideEVs, the Grand Touring Performance secured the top spot for the fastest production car at the event. Better yet, Top Gear fans can celebrate that the mighty EV was piloted up the hill by none other than Ben Collins, the Stig himself. Collins coaxed the big, heavy Lucid Air around corners and across the finish line in just 50.79 seconds.

Which cars were slower than the Lucid Air at Goodwood?

The Lucid Air was faster than any other production car at the event, including sports cars and supercars. That means the sensible EV sedan put down faster times than cars from legendary automakers like McLaren, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Lotus, Aston Martin, and Porsche. Quite an accomplishment for a vehicle that will seat five in luxury.

Which cars were the fastest at Goodwood?

The Lucid Air secured the number twelve spot overall, surpassed only by purpose-built race cars. For instance, the Air’s time was just 0.43 seconds off the Porsche 911 RSR’s time, a vehicle destined for racing circuits.

How much does it cost to buy one?

Here comes the greatest fault of modern supercar-bashing luxury EVs like the Air and the Tesla Model S Plaid: the price. According to TrueCar, the Dream Edition will set you back a starting price of $170,500. Also, Grand Touring trim still manages to demand $140,500, making most of the Air’s offerings prohibitively expensive. At least for now, wicked fast EVs are simply out of reach for the majority of car shoppers.
