A social media influencer in Florida was arrested Friday after provoking police into a high-speed chase by blowing through a red light.

Damaury Mikula, best known for his TikTok account with over 4 million followers, noticed a police officer a few cars behind him and decided he wanted to “do something fun.” Mikula then burned out through the intersection and raced the police in a chase of over 100 mph, according to WFLA.

“Mr. Mikula advised his state of mind was that he is young, makes a lot of money, and has a fast car and he can do whatever he wants,” Trooper W. Kelly said. “Mr. Mikula advised he wanted to do something fun for three seconds, and it cost him.”

Mikula, 18, did not pull over when the trooper activated his lights and siren. The trooper pursuing the social media star eventually tracked him to his house and arrested him when he answered the door, according to Fox News.

Mikula told police he was the only person in the car and knew the trooper was trying to pull him over. He said his plan was to get onto the expressway to outrun the patrol vehicle, but decided not to as it could get him in more trouble, the outlet reported.

After being taken to the Pasco County Jail without incident, Mikula bonded out and was released Saturday morning. He was charged with fleeing/eluding police with disregard of safety to persons or property, reckless driving, and racing on a highway, according to the outlet.

The Florida Highway Patrol did not immediately respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.
